Gracie Hornsby

Graduate student, Stanford Civil and Environmental Engineering

Gracie Hornsby is a graduate student in civil and environmental engineering at Stanford and member of the 2020 cohort of Knight-Hennessy Scholars. She graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Gracie aims to work with water, sanitation and hygiene issues in low- and middle-income countries with the goal of achieving universal, equitable access to safely managed water and sanitation services. At Stanford she is part of the research team conducting an evaluation of the WASH UP!, to investigate key impacts and outcomes of the play-based learning infrastructure and behavior change program. She has worked with Engineers Without Borders in Guatemala, the Circle of Women for Social Action and Mutual Aid in Cameroon, and done undergraduate research on the use of molecular microbial source tracking to identify source-specific contamination in drinking water. She was selected as the NC State College of Engineering Faculty Senior Scholar, received a departmental award for citizenship and service and received the Distinguished Goodnight Award for the Goodnight Scholars Program’s Class of 2020.
